Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) scheme

A joint government and industry program

Publications

WELS is a successful scheme and the objective of the strategic plan for the next few years is to improve cost recovery and focus on the issues identified in the independent review.
This cost benefit analysis found that whilst hot water circulators have the potential to save water, they cannot be rated for water efficiency because all hot water circulators will provide similar levels of water savings when assessed under identical ‘test’ conditions.
This cost benefit analysis found that whilst domestic irrigation controllers have the potential to save water, these savings are largely dependent on the user being educated on the appropriate use of the type or model of controllers that are installed as part of an irrigation system, rather than the inherent features of the controllers.
This report provides technical information about the possible inclusion of evaporative air conditioners in the WELS scheme. It contains information on water consumption for these products across Australia.
This report provides useful background information that will assist in the preparation of a cost benefit analysis and regulation impact statement on the potential inclusion of this product into the WELS scheme.
This consultation Regulation Impact Statement assesses the regulatory impacts, including the costs and benefits of setting minimum water efficiency standards for clothes washers and dishwashers to improve the water efficiency of these products. It also assesses the case for introducing a WELS label and minimum standard for the dryer component of combination washer dryers that use water in dryer-mode and stand-alone dryers that use water.
This report investigates the feasibility of including hot water circulators in the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) scheme and/or other suitable programs.
This study explores possible inclusion of more water-efficient toilets into the WELS scheme. The report does not cover vacuum and dry toilets.
This report examines the cost effectiveness of WELS.
