InkWELS - May 2011
Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities
WELS check testing program – Laboratory proficiency testing
The Department has engaged a consultant to evaluate the proficiency of a selection of NATA accredited laboratories that test WELS products.
The proficiency testing will:
- evaluate the repeatability of testing the same product within each laboratory
- evaluate the reproducibility of testing the same product from laboratory to laboratory
- identify shortcomings in the test standards used to determine water efficiency ratings
- establish criteria to determine if supplier claims made under the WELS scheme are compliant when their products are check tested.
This round of proficiency testing will use two of the highest water-using products, in terms of their contribution to total household consumption: showers and toilets. It should be completed in late 2011.
WELS scheme retailer information sessions
The second in a series of retailer information sessions will be held in Sydney, Friday 27 May 2011, in the Georges River Room at the Bankstown Sports Club, 8 Greenfield Parade, Bankstown NSW.
These sessions will provide retailers with information on the WELS scheme to help them advise customers about WELS when selling water efficient products. They will also help retailers in meeting their obligations under the scheme.
These current sessions are primarily aimed at retailers of WELS products in the south west of Sydney.
If you are a retailer of WELS products and interested in attending one of these sessions, please RSVP by COB Wednesday 25 May 2011 to wels@environment.gov.au or telephone 6274 1665.
Please note:
- There is one morning and one afternoon session, please indicate which session you would like to attend with your RSVP.
- If you are unable to attend either session but are still interested in the information we will be providing, we will be scheduling more sessions in the Sydney metropolitan area later in the year. Please indicate if you would be interested in attending one of these later sessions.
