So what does WELS mean for plumbers?

WELS requires certain water-using products to be labelled for water efficiency before they can be legally sold in Australia.

The water-using WELS products are toilets, urinals, some taps, showers, registered flow controllers, washing machines and dishwashers.

Note that the WELS Scheme does not mandate installation requirements — these are specified under relevant plumbing/building codes and regulations.
