Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards
(WELS) Scheme

Rebates

What is a rebate?

A rebate repays the purchaser for part of the money outlaid for a product and therefore reduces the overall cost of the product.

Rebates and WELS products

Rebates may be offered on some WELS rated products by local water authorities or governments.

Water efficiency rebates are offered to encourage potential purchasers to buy products which will impact less on the environment.  Over their lifetimes, these products will also save money through lower water bills.

How to find out more

Ask your local water authority or government if they offer rebates for people buying water-efficient appliances. Alternatively, you can go to ‘Water Rebates’ at www.smartwatermark.org  to find your local water authority or council for rebate information or to the greenplumbers website.

Did you know?

Combination washer/dryers may use water to dry loads. Presently, the WELS Scheme only rates the water used in the washing function and not the water consumed in the drying function.

State, territory and local government authorities have been advised that the offer of rebates on combined washer-dryers should be carefully considered.
