The Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards (WELS) scheme completed its fifth year of operation in 2009–10. An independent review of the scheme was conducted at that time, in line with the requirements of section 76 of the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Act 2005.
The review considered the appropriateness, effectiveness and efficiency of the scheme and made recommendations for its improvement.
In consultation with the states and territories, then Minister for Environment Protection, Heritage and the Arts, the Hon Peter Garret AM MP appointed Dr Chris Guest to undertake the review.
The WELS Strategic Plan 2012–15 was produced based on recommendations from this review.
A second independent review of the WELS scheme was conducted in 2015.
Guest, Chris for the Department of Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts, 2010
The findings of the review and recommendations were published in a final report, Independent Review of the Water Efficiency Labelling and Standards Scheme.
This report was tabled in Parliament on 13 October 2010.
